Honda is now quickly getting close to its Formula 1 return as the power for the Formula-1 racing is required with an incredibly high-tech hybrid system. This hybrid variant will be capable of attaining the maximum velocity of more than 200 mph. This powertrain includes systems to recall power from heat and brakes, which give the automaker the opportunity to establish the power of its hybrid technology. The brand is also active in preparing the two of the most expected sports coupes of Japan, the 2018 Civic Type R and the new NSX type R.
Now, the latest news comes from the company’s reliable sources reveals that the despised sports coupe, the CR-Z hybrid, will return in the form of an all-fresh, more performance-focused model, with the name, 2018 Honda CR-Z. The American arm of Honda has been demanding for an aggressive, attractive, and affordable coupe to boost its brand representation and the exact solution for the demand. When the 2018 model CR-Z arrives in the United States market, it might be sold as a high-performance coupe edition of the next generation Honda Civic and could probably be sold under the name, the Honda Civic CR-Z.
2018 Honda CR-Z Exterior
The original version of the CR-Z was derived from a customized edition of the Honda Fit platform, but not like the Fit, with its centrally situated fuel tank, the tank of the new Honda CR-Z 2018 has been placed at the back. To keep expenses down, the platform of the new vehicle will be carried over from the next cohort Civic, but the wheelbase of the new CR-Z will be less than four inches that of the Civic. However, the new vehicle will be slightly longer and wider than the existing CR-Z. The new vehicle will borrow the majority of its design prompts the Civic Type R and from the new NSX.
Although Honda remains tight-lipped, regarding the interior of its 2018 Honda CR-Z, it is expected that the cabin would come equipped with the same features as those of the earlier CR-Z.
2018 Honda CR-Z Engine Specs
Beneath the hood, the new Honda CR-Z 2018 comes equipped with a detuned edition of the engine of the Civic Type R. As a result, the powertrain option of the new vehicle will be a four-cylinder, VTEC turbocharged unit with the displacement of 2.0 liters. Due to fine tuning, the powertrain delivers the maximum power of 280 horsepower.
Although the U.S. edition of the new CR-Z will be equipped with the 2.0-liter capacity power unit, the automaker has plans to bring the hybrid engine back from the Japanese local market. This version will use a turbocharged, i-DCD hybrid powertrain with the displacement of 1.5 liters to produce the maximum power of 200 horsepower. To improve the performance, Honda attaches this powertrain with an eight-velocity automatic transmission.
Price and release date
At present, the new CR-Z is still three years away as a minimum from making its way into the local showrooms of Honda. It is expected that the automaker will display the concept version of the new model CR-Z during the 2017 Auto Show to be held in Detroit. Anyway, it is expected that the 2018 Honda CRZ will be released for sale during the early part of 2018.
