As we know, the hydrogen is a potential solution to the environmental issues and because of that fact, the Honda Company started with some basic researches on fuel cells back in the 1980s. Furthermore, back in 2002, the Honda became the first Company with the U.S. government permit to sell the vehicles with fuel cell technologies. Very fast after that, Honda started to leasing the vehicles in the U.S and in the Japan. Nine years ago, the Company started to leasing the FCX Clarity model. Furthermore, this model had advanced fuel cell stack, certainly innovative package as well as the new level of feel in the drive. 2016 is the year when Honda Company develops its fuel cell technologies in even higher level. Exterior design

According to some pictures, the forthcoming model looks quite futuristic from the outside. First of all, let’s start from the front side of this model. Up front, we can see the design that looks quite futuristic. Honda definitely wanted to provide something new that will represent a new era. Our opinion is that they definitely succeed in that intention. The whole front fascia is some kind of connection. Here we can expect unique shape with a distinctive appearance. When it comes to dimensions, this model will be about the same size as the Accord mid-size sedan.

However, it will look quite different. If we need to provide you some information about the look according to the pictures, we would say that this model looks like a combination of previous Clarity FCX sedan, Accord Crosstour fastback, and Honda Insight hybrid hatchback. We can anticipate flattering angles as well. The headlights(nine lamps/DRL) will be most likely powered by the LED technology, and they will be very thin. The roof will be most likely black, while the fog lights will be connected with the mentioned headlights. This model will be also an extremely light(20 percent lighter than standard aluminum-forged type). At the sides, this model will ride on futuristic and aerodynamic wheels that will be 18-inch large. Two new colors are Bordeaux Red Metallic Color.

Interior design

The interior design of the recently developed model will be also very futuristic. Actually, the passenger space will be divided into four spaces, one for each passenger. The dashboard is very nicely and simply designed, and this dashboard is right in step with other current Honda vehicles. However, the instrument panel will offer more futuristic layout. The same case we can expect with the door handles and trims. When it comes to some other details inside, we can expect quite quality seats. Of course, the leather will be standard upholstery material for them. We can also expect leather on the steering wheel and most likely on the door trims.

Furthermore, this model will provide a lot of high-tech features inside as well as a lot of safety systems. This model will have a great infotainment system with so many options for connectivity. The climate control will be very quality and we can expect air quality sensor that will detect NOx, CO2 as well as other harmful substances. About safety(Honda Sensing), there is not much data, but the manufacturer claims that major goal is in prevent collisions.

Engine and Performance

The newly model will be powered by an electric motor(330 V to 500 V) and it will be capable of accommodating up to 174 horsepower and 221 pound-feet of torque. The front wheel drive type will be standard. The electricity that will power this model will come from a fuel cell under the hood with the lithium-ion battery located under the front seats. This model will use Honda’s new V Flow fuel cell stack. It will be smaller, but however more powerful. According to Honda, this model will accelerate from 0-60 mph in 9.2 seconds. This model has EPA rates at 366 miles of range from its 5.5 gallons. There will be two modes of driving, Sport and Normal, you guess that first one will be for the sharper ride.

Shoppers of hydrogen fuel-cell sedans will get a third option sooner than the end of the year. The renowned Japanese automaker previously pointed out at the 2015 Auto Show in Tokyo while unveiling the 2017 Honda Clarity Fuel Cell, which is a four-door sedan, will be available only at certain dealerships in Orange and Los Angeles counties, as well as in Sacramento and the San Francisco Bay Area. The limitations are because of lack of fueling stations elsewhere and are standard working procedure for car manufacturers right now.

The automaker said that it would expand the accessibility of the Clarity model beyond leasing, and make the vehicle available in other areas of the Golden State because fueling stations and vehicle supplies become readily available. It may offer the 2017 Clarity outside California at some stage in the future. The automaker has planned to sell 200 units of Clarity in the first year, whereas the plug-in hybrid and battery-electric models could trade in the thousands all over the world.

The 2017 Honda hybrid will be constructed on a new platform that will be shared with a committed plug-in hybrid version that Honda plans to introduce in 2018. This platform sharing will enable Honda to spread the expenses of the low-capacity Clarity to a model, which will likely to be sold in huge numbers than the fuel-cell sedan. The similar platform may also be exercised for a battery-electric sedan that Honda will introduce in 2018. While its major competitors, such as the Tucson Fuel Cell from Hyundai is derived from an existing version, and the Toyota Mirai exercises a distinctive platform, the 2017 Clarity will be the foundation for additional versions.

Honda has followed a diverse approach to the expansion than either of the other automakers that have offered so far. It uses a fresh, more compact fuel-cell heap that allows all parts to fit beneath the hood. Hydrogen-storage containers situated beneath the rear seat and between the back wheels make the new Clarity move to a maximum distance of 300 miles. 2017 Clarity comes with a hydrogen storage tank with sufficient capacity that can drive the vehicle to a maximum distance of 434 miles.
