Honda UK recently unveiled the 2018 Honda Civic Type R Pickup Truck Concept during the annual test day of the SMMT (Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders). This vehicle is destined to be the fastest truck in Europe. A specialized team of engineers working at the Swindon factory is behind this wild utility concept.
2018 Honda Civic Type R Pickup Truck Concept Exterior
This truck has a very interesting exterior appearance. Its roof has been chopped out behind the B-pillars in order to make the truck bed. The curves on the original metal sheet have been retained while the bedside tops have been shaped to image them. Unlike the conventional truck, the tailgate for this model doesn’t drop down. The rear wing also seems to be glued around the tailgate. Apart from the wing, the pickup receives a sports bar and just like any other truck, auxiliary lights have been installed.

Honda Civic Type R Truck Concept Interior
In order to create this concept, the Honda engineers used the pre-production version of the Civic Type R in order to create the truck. This means that rear seats and cargo space made way for the truck bed. Most of the interior features of Type R front part has been retained. This also includes the iconic styling and comfort of the front seats. On the dash, we expect a 7-inch screen display having a red theme.
The truck is expected to retain the engine specifications of the civic type R model. This includes a 2.0-liter inline-4 engine that generates about 306 hp and has torque capabilities of 295 lb-ft. A six-speed manual transmission system will be used to steer this truck. This ‘project P’ as it is popularly known, will have the capacity to sprint from 0 to 62 mph in less than 6 seconds. It can also hit top speeds of 169 mph. The expected drive modes are Sport, comfort, and +R.
Price and release date
The end product of this Type R Pickup Truck Concept is not yet out but the team is working hard to achieve it. There have been suggestions that the project is one-off and may not necessarily go to full production. Honda has also insisted that it is just a concept and may not be showing up on the market.
