A new Honda Civic Type R model was released in 2017 and it has been quite impressive on the market. The car has however not been able to establish its superiority and compete with the top cars in its category. The company seems to be doing something about it if the 2019 Honda Civic Type R is anything to go by.
2019 Honda Civic Type R Exterior
The car’s exterior design seems to retain most features of its predecessor. A few changes that have been made are meant to give it a more accomplished design and reduce its overall weight. The rear and front vents have been eliminated while its massive 20-inch rims have been replaced with the 19-inch options. The rear bumper looks similar to that of its predecessor while some additional flicks and a deeper front bumper have been included to make it more competitive.

At the front, a new piece of plastic has been inserted to divide its large outboard grilles. The car retains the round fog lights used in the current model. The lower half of the grille is now slightly larger and carries a Type R badge while the upper half has been reduced. The car’s rear end has some newly sectioned-off areas that blend well with its rear bumper.
New Honda Civic Type R 2019 Interior
The new 2019 Civic Type R is expected to use the same platform as its predecessor but receives some minor changes in its interior. This includes a higher resolution instrument panel and a refined infotainment system. The new infotainment system is expected to have a dedicated knob for controlling the volume.

The trunk space has been reduced in line with its decreased width. The updates in the rear suspension are not expected to interfere with the cabin space. Most of the interior upgrades for this car are meant to bring it to the same level as the latest Insight and Pilot models.
Engine
The 2019 Type R is likely to retain the engine specifications of the current model. This includes a four-cylinder 2.0-liter turbocharged engine. The horsepower capabilities for this engine are 306 hp while its torque capabilities are 295 lb-ft. The transmission gear is expected to be a 6-speed manual system.

The standard release is likely to be an FWD car. It is however expected to introduce a new AWD system for this release. The new system is likely to include a 10-speed automatic gearbox in its design. You should expect this car to have the capacity to move from 0 to 100 km/h (0-60 mph) in less than 5.7 seconds. Finally, fuel consumption should be around, 25 miles per gallon combined, 22 mpg city and 28 mpg highway.
Price and release date
The current model of the car is going for about $34,700 but this is expected to go lower in the coming months. The new release will be happening somewhere in 2019 and by then the standard model will cost $36,595. The higher version of the car would probably go for $38,000.

U.S. Honda dealerships markups ruined the release of the Civic Type R with some charging BMW M2 prices for the Civic Type R. It’s a good care but it’s not that good and the chokehold dealerships have on the consumer should be criminal. But it’s not entirely their fault because there are also consumers with more money than sense willing to pay those ridiculous uncharges. It’s too bad the U.S. cannot purchase cars from the factory as Europeans can.
James: You make this sound like a conspiracy foisted by and invented by Honda dealers. In truth, not all Honda dealers increased prices on what is selling like hotcakes…only some.
In all fairness, car dealers have been adding premiums to high demand cars for decades…including many generations of the Mazda Miata, the original Ford Mustang, Corvette, etc. etc.
While I don’t think I’d pay more, it’s a free market.
