Honda is at it again. The 2018 Honda Rugged Open Air Vehicle Concept is generating quite a bit of excitement and expectations. It made its public presence at the SEMA show and it has generated mixed feelings. According to many, it may have borrowed a few things from the Pioneer all-terrain vehicle. However, there are some things different about it and therefore it would be interesting to have a look at the same over the next few lines.
The rear lights, doors and shared headlights very much resemble the Pioneer ATV. However, as far as the exterior and size are concerned, it is quite big. It resembles a pickup vehicle and the underbody protection and generous ground clearance are quite obvious. It does not have a window worth the name. Further, the upper part of the vehicle looks like a roll cage. The passengers are protected from the outside by nets.
2018 Honda Rugged Open Air Vehicle Concept Interior
The steering wheel is a straight lift from the Pioneer 1000. The seats resemble those of Civic Type R and could be one of the best in its category. The upholstery material is also quite good and it is fully weatherproof. It does sport a Spartan look. The dashboard is still very much as it was but quite a few switches and buttons are missing.
The running gear and the chassis which houses the engine are the same as Ridgeline. It comes with a 3.5-liter V6 engine which generates around 280 HP and also 262-pound-feet of torque. The six-speed automatic transmission works quite smoothly and offers effortless driving in difficult and rough terrains.
Price And Release Date
It should be priced at around $48000 and the release date should be somewhere around the 3rd week of December 2018. On the whole, it could be a good off-the-road vehicle and could offer very good value for money. It is built to take the rough road without damaging the exteriors or the passengers in it.
